This is a common concern among language learners, and I can personally relate to this apprehension, even as a teacher when I teach a class for the first time.
The impression we leave on our listeners through our language is just as crucial as conveying the message itself. When we communicate with clarity, precision, and confidence, people are more inclined to pay special attention.
While striving for flawless language usage offers numerous advantages, it's essential to remember that we are all human, and making errors is a part of the learning process. So, what's the best approach when you make mistakes or find yourself struggling for words during a conversation? The answer is surprisingly simple: don't let it trouble you.
It's possible that others may point out your errors. In such situations, it's advisable to acknowledge the feedback politely and make a conscious effort to avoid repeating the same mistake.
Similarly, when you notice an error made by someone else, you can choose to indirectly guide them toward the correct usage. Instead of directly pointing out the mistake, you can rephrase the sentence without the error, subtly aiding the individual in the process of self-correction.
Example:
A: "She do not like it."
You: "Oh...she doesn't like it."
Above all, the cornerstone of effective communication is confidence. Doubting yourself can indeed lead to stumbling. But by fostering self-assurance, you can enhance your ability to express yourself fluently and with poise.
